Mother receiving lactation support for breastfeeding latch assessment Perth

Ongoing Breastfeeding Support in Perth

Hospital midwives do an incredible job under difficult conditions, but they’re stretched thin and the visits are short. Once you’re home, you’re often left to work things out on your own, with a feeding baby, very little sleep, and the internet for company.

I provide one-on-one lactation consultations in your home, at a depth that the hospital system rarely has time for. I take a full history, I observe a full feed, I assess your baby’s oral anatomy, your milk supply, your positioning and attachment, and I give you a clear, specific plan.

Most breastfeeding problems can be resolved or significantly improved with the right intervention at the right time. The key is not waiting too long.

Breastfeeding Issues I Can Help With

Latch & Attachment Problems

Latch & Attachment Problems

If feeding is painful, your baby is unsettled after feeds, or you’re concerned they’re not transferring milk effectively, these are all signs that the latch needs looking at. I’ll observe a feed, identify what’s happening, and show you how to correct it.
Low Milk Supply

Low Milk Supply

Perceived low supply is one of the most common reasons mothers stop breastfeeding earlier than they’d like, and in many cases, supply is actually adequate. In others, there is a genuine supply issue that can be addressed.
Oversupply & Forceful Letdown

Oversupply & Forceful Letdown

Too much milk causes its own set of problems. An unsettled, gassy baby, repeated blocked ducts, and mastitis. I can help you manage supply and get feeds more comfortable for both of you.
Tongue Tie Assessment & Referral

Tongue Tie Assessment & Referral

Tongue tie is one of the most commonly missed causes of breastfeeding difficulty, and one of the areas where getting an IBCLC assessment early makes the biggest difference. I’ll assess your baby’s tongue and lip function during a feed, and if a referral to a specialist is needed, I’ll connect you with the right provider.
Nipple Pain & Damage

Nipple Pain & Damage

Sore or cracked nipples are not something you just have to put up with. They’re almost always a sign that something needs adjusting, whether that’s attachment, oral anatomy, or an infection like thrush. I’ll identify the cause and give you a treatment plan.
Mastitis & Blocked Ducts

Mastitis & Blocked Ducts

Mastitis needs prompt attention to prevent it from escalating. I can assess the severity, advise on management, and help you address the underlying cause so it doesn’t recur.
Returning to Work & Pumping

Returning to Work & Pumping

Going back to work doesn’t have to mean the end of breastfeeding. I can help you establish a pumping routine, assess your flange sizing, and work out a plan that fits your situation.
Unsettled or Fussy Baby

Unsettled or Fussy Baby

A baby who is unsettled, not gaining weight as expected, or hard to settle after feeds may have a feeding issue at the root of it. I’ll take a thorough look at the full picture.
